Using the Directory Features
Your 10XDirectories community site isn’t just a static listing page – it’s a dynamic platform with tools to help you engage with locals and other businesses. Here are some of the key features and how to use them:
-
Search and Visibility: Visitors to the directory can search by business name, category, or keywords. Make sure your profile has relevant keywords (in your description, tags, etc.) so that you appear in these searches. For example, if you’re a cafe, mentioning terms like “coffee,” “breakfast,” or “bakery” in your profile can help you show up when users search for those. The directory may also allow filters (by neighborhood, category, ratings, etc.), so having complete info (like address and categories) ensures you’re included in all relevant results.
-
Reviews and Ratings: Most 10XDirectories directories include a customer reviews section on each business profile. People can rate your services and leave feedback. As a member, you can’t edit what someone else writes, but you can and should respond to reviews. Responding to reviews – whether to thank someone for positive comments or to professionally address a negative comment – shows you are active and care about customers’ input. To respond, log in and find the review on your listing; there’s usually an option to “Reply” or “Respond.” Keep replies courteous and helpful. If you believe a review violates guidelines or is fraudulent, contact support (we take fraud seriously and can moderate if needed).
-
Messaging/Contact: Potential customers might reach out to you through the directory. Depending on the community’s setup, there may be a “Contact Business” form on your profile or a messaging system that sends inquiries to your email. Be sure to monitor your email (including spam folder just in case) for any messages sent via the directory. Prompt replies to inquiries can turn curious visitors into real customers.
-
Networking with Other Members: One big benefit of a 10XDirectories-powered community is the network of fellow local business owners and community members. Some directories have features like member-to-member messaging or forums. For instance, you might find a community discussion board or be able to send direct messages to other verified members (useful for collaborations or referrals). If your site offers these, you’ll typically find them under sections like “Community”, “Forum”, or within your member dashboard. Participating in discussions or networking events (more on events below) can help you forge local partnerships and share advice.
-
Events and Opportunities: Many of our local directories host or promote events – these could be networking meetups, local markets, webinars, or workshops relevant to your community. Check the Events section (or sometimes called “Networking Events” or “Community Calendar”) on your directory site. As a member, you might have perks such as discounted entry to events, or even the ability to post your own events. For example, if you’re hosting a grand opening or a sale event, some communities let verified businesses submit an event to the calendar to spread the word. Always read any event posting guidelines (usually on the event submission page) to ensure it’s appropriate. Attending events is a great way to meet other members and promote your business offline as well.
-
Promotions and Deals: In certain 10XDirectories communities, there’s a feature to add special deals or offers to your listing (like a coupon or a member-to-member discount). If available, you’ll see a “Deals” or “Offers” section when editing your profile. This can attract more attention to your listing (everyone loves a good deal). It’s optional, but if you have something you can offer – e.g. “10% off for directory members” or “Free consultation for first-time customers from the directory” – consider adding it. Just be sure to keep any deal details updated and honor whatever you post.
Take some time to explore your directory’s interface after you’ve set up your profile. The exact features can vary slightly from one community to another, but the core concept is the same: your membership gives you access to a suite of tools to increase your local exposure and engage with the community. If you’re ever unsure about a feature on your specific site, you can likely find a description of it in that site’s FAQ or by asking our support team.
